Frame drum; samba
Samba, single membrane frame drum. The shell is a shallow rectangle made from four pieces of wood nailed together. A narrower wooden frame lines the upper rim. A crossbar is positioned across the lower rim consisting of three pieces of wood, one the length of the longest side, the other two attached at right angles at the centre. Two small rectangular holes are cut into the longest sides between the arm of the crossbar and the edge of the membrane. The hide membrane is glued and nailed into position.
