Goblet drum; darabukka
Darabukka, goblet-shaped drum. The shell of terra cotta has a cylindrical stem and a wide upper bowl that tapers inward slightly towards the rim. The surface of the body is inlaid with coloured woods, bone and mother-of-pearl in geometrical designs, and the foot is similarly decorated. Three rings inlaid with contrasting white bone(?) and black wood encircle the foot and the stem at the middle and the top. A hide membrane covers the external flange of the rim, and is secured by a narrow hoop immediately beneath.
