English-system concertina. Flat rosewood ends, 6.25in/159mm across parallel sides. Simple fretwork with white muslin backing. 48 ivory buttons, with black accidentals, stamped with note names. Round-end reeds with brass tongues. Four-fold black leather bellows with gold star papers. Remains of black leather thumb straps, small nickel securing screws. Oval paper label: Simpson, 266 Regent St, London. Improved Concertina; Serial number printed on left-hand muslin backing: 1291.
