Goblet drum; dumbelek

Dümbelek, goblet-shaped drum. The shell constructed from staves of wood, veneered alternately with wood (probably walnut) and ivory, with a black and white striped band carved above the waist. Mother-of -pearl decoration beneath the rim consists of a circle of lozenge shaped inlays with a simple band beneath. The interior is lined with embossed green paper. The hide membrane was originally painted black, but has lightened with age.
