Spike fiddle; so sam sai
So sam sai, spike fiddle. The resonator is of a type of coconut shell, with three prominent bulges at the back. The soundtable is probably of pigskin, with bristles on it. The spike immediately above and below the resonator is protected by turned ivory sleeves. Above the upper sleeve is a further sleeve of turned wood with a metal ring at each end. The pegbox is a flared hollow cone of ivory into which pass three ivory pegs. The strings are hidden at the upper end by the pegbox which only has a hole at the top, while at the lower end they vanish into the ivory sleeve below the resonator. The wooden bridge is arched.
