Violin
Violin. The soundboard is of spruce of fine grain at the centre, opening out slightly towards the flanks. The one-piece back is of maple cut on the slab of medium curl, the sides cut on the quarter of medium curl, the head plain. The fingerboard, tail and tuning pegs are a black-coloured wood, probably ebony. The varnish is of a light brown colour. This violin has been re-necked and undergone other major repairs in the course of its history as a playing instrument. The instrument bears a reproduction label: "Gio. Battista Rugieri detto il per/In Cremona 1706".
