Piccolo

Piccolo. Nominal pitch: C. Yamaha model YPC-62. Two joints: cylindrical head and conical body, both of grenadilla (Dalbergia melanoxylon). Ferrules, keys and tuning slide of nickel silver plated with silver. Keys mounted on two parallel axles that run lengthwise down side of top holes. Touches/keys are round with slight indentations in the tops and yellow felt pads. Boehm conical system with split E mechanism. Embouchure is slightly squared and has no lip plate. Wooden endcap is metal inside and meets mouthpiece at narrow metal ferrule. Mouthpiece and body joint connect at a 'French slide' style tuning slide. This consists of a metal cork-lapped tenon on the body joint and a metal lined socket on the mouthpiece, which also has an inner tenon to fit inside the body joint tenon. Narrow metal ferrule at lower end of both joints. Inscription in gold lettering below tenon of body joint: YAMAHA/ESTABLISHED/IN 1887/JAPAN/62; stamped on tenon at back: 28855; Condition is as new, and instrument retains original cleaning rod, case, cork grease and bottle of key oil.
