Whistle; vessel flute

Zoomorphic whistle, vessel flute with duct. A terracotta whistle in the form of a grotesque face with open mouth, possibly a monkey effigy. The protruding cheeks, nose and chin are encircled by a sinuous band which has a small hand at each end, as if held in front of the face. There is a mouthpiece below the chin, which has rounded sides and a rectangular duct. The rectangular mouth of the face forms the mouth or window of the whistle. A single round finger hole is in the position of the eye. A raised section connecting the mouth piece has a hole for a carrying string.
