Double clarinet; diple
Diple, double clarinet. The body comprising two parallel tubes bored into a single piece of wood. The upper surface is scalloped to assist finger location. The pipe to the player’s right has six fingerholes while the left that serves as a drone has two, which are adjacent to the lower two holes on the melody pipe. The holes are small and angled towards the lower end at the outer surface. A downcut idioglot reed is set into the base of the wooden windcap and the proximal end of each wooden pipe. The reeds are protected by the conical windcap, with open proximal end. The outer surface of the windcap is carved with geometric patterns and the mask of a moustached man. Vertical lines are carved into the sides of the pipes.
