Jiaoye Qin (Ming dynasty qin (seven-stringed zither-like instrument))

The strings and tuning pegs are lost. Made of wood. The body of the qin is painted in black lacquer and has cracks (duanwen) on it. The body of the qin is shaped like a banana leaf with wave-like edges. Seven string holes are located on the head of the qin and thirteen mother-of-pearl inlays are dotted along one side of the body. The shoulders of the qin start from the 3rd inlay and the narrowing section between the 8th and 11th inlays is the waist of the qin. The two sound holes (the “dragon pool” and “phoenix pond”) at the back of the qin are rectangular shaped with slightly rounded corners.
