Xiexin Qin

The top surface of the qin is made of paulownia wood and the bottom surface of the qin is made of ovate catalpa wood. This qin does not have a cap corner (guanjue). Its bridge (yueshan) and dew-receptor (chenglu) are both made of hardwood. The goose feet are made of ovate catalpa wood. There are no tuning pegs and the mother-of-pearl inlays are worn away. The qin has no cracks (duanwen). The top surface of the qin is painted with black lacquer and the bottom surface is painted in a chestnut colour. There are no inscriptions on the belly of the qin. Traces of repair can be found on both the top and bottom surfaces of the instrument.

  • Measurements:Total length: 122cm, string length: 113.5cm, width of the forehead: 15.7cm, width of the shoulders: 17.5cm, width of the tail: 12.5cm, the large sound hole is 22.2cm long and 3.2cm wide, the small sound hole is 12cm long and 2.3cm wide.
