Octave spinet

Octave spinet, partially constructed from ?17th-century parts. Compass: C/E bass short octave to c3, 45 notes. Edwin Ripin believed this instrument to be a fake from the workshop of Leopoldo Franciolini. Some of the parts (including the case-top moulding and possibly the key coverings and sharp blocks) appear to be old and are well made; other parts (such as the keylevers which are crudely made and the inlaid panels of the nameboard and the jackrail) appear to be of a later date. Since this is not a viable instrument in its present form, it is likely that it has been assembled in an attempt to defraud.
