Turkish crescent
A variety of terms are used for this instrument, including ‘Turkish crescent’, ‘Chinese pavilion’ and ‘chapeau chinois’. It is a percussion stick with a variety of bells and jingles, usually decorated with a Muslim crescent, that was common in military bands during the 18th and 19th centuries; it was played by shaking or twisting the stick.
