Grand pianoforte
Grand piano. A circa 1890 rosewood-cased Steinway grand piano, iron frame, overstrung action, una, corda and forte pedals, ivory keys, reeded monumental circular section legs and adjustable music stand. Inscribed under the lid "Steinway & Sons / Patent Grand / New York & Hamburg" and "RAE. MACINTOSH / & CO LTD / 39 GEORGE STREET / EDINBURGH". Bought by Margaret Fay Shaw in 1935 with money given to her for a wedding present by her uncle George Shaw. Shipped out to Northbay, Barra, to her and John Lorne Campbell's first home together there [see Shaw, M. F. 'From the Alleghenies to the Hebrides' (Edinburgh: Birlinn, 2008), p113]
