Bell

Cast miniature bell, of a likely amuletic function, in copper alloy; conical with circular ring for suspension on top and protrusions below loop on either side of wall and small hole between protrusions on one side; lump of corrosion inside may be traces of clapper or clapper attachment; small fragment broken off lower edge; heavily encrusted. Made in Egypt between the late 4th century BC and the late 3rd century BC. Excavated at Naukratis, Nile Delta, Egypt between 1884 and 1886 by Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie (1853-1942) for the Egypt Exploration Fund, London.
