clappers
Chief mourner's clapper, musical instrument made of two pearl-shells joined by a cord (twined coconut fibre with loose barkcloth binding). The larger of the two pearl-shells is unshaped, and retains its natural oval form. The other has been cut on three sides to an essentially rectangular shape. Both have a silver and purple lustre.
