The horizontal set of strings have a wood cover at one side. The two sets of pegs for the diagonal strings have a pair of holes at each end suggesting that they may also have had covers originally. Both sets of strings have paper labels with the string numbers: on the diagonal strings these are placed next to both sets of pegs, and on the horizontal strings a single paper label is pasted onto the box itself.
