viol-shaped body, arched, flush ribs and f-holes. Back: 1 piece of bird's-eye maple, much arched in centre, slightly recovered at edge; no corners, single purfling; a large stud through the button. Belly: 1 piece irregular-grained pine; f-holes (40mm) straight, wide, set high in body. Ribs: plain sycamore, bevelled edge towards back on rh side (?repaired, ?replaced). Neck, head: 1 piece of unfigured wood, with small Saxon-type scroll, fairly well cut but not distinguished; 4 boxwood pegs; endpin rosewood, tailpiece ebony with pearl spot, loop-tied. Fingerboard ebony. Inside: with linings, soundpost and bass-bar. Length 440, body 200, width 112/72/124, depth 25, fingerboard 210
