Pocket fiddle

body: rectangular, highly arched both sides recovered at edge with a marked groove; varnish: yellow-brown; no purfling, but 2 fine black lines round both back and belly. Back: 1 piece sycamore. Belly: 1 piece pine; no soundholes, which are in the ribs, 106mm from bottom; the ends of the body are not the same as the ribs; the top one is ebony, bottom of ?walnut with edges of ebony. Neck: short, thick, in 1 piece with head, which is grooved along the back, but has no scroll; finial a mere stump. Pegs: 4 boxwood, ebony and pearl eyes. Fingerboard: thick, of rosewood or mahogany painted black; endpin ebony, small; tailpiece ebony. Length 577, body 355, width 66, ribs 17/35, fingerboard 255
