Technical description: Stained boxwood with ivory ferrules and silver keywork. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell. Mouthpiece cocus, with long table, grooved for cord, expanding at base to meet swelling of barrel. Barrel bulbous, lined with metal to fit silver tuning-slide on top of upper section. Speaker unusual, the motion of the rear thumb-lever being conveyed to front key by a ring mechanism concealed by a silver band; the tone holes have integral wood seatings: the two blocks of long keys for L4 are lined with silver and have a silver 'saddle' carrying the central duplicate E? key; ferrules ivory, half-round on bell and lower section, tapered with rim on barrel; thumbrest ivory, shaped, screwed to body. Little-finger key swelling fusiform; leaf springs; diagonally-mounted duplicate lever under L4 opens the E??/B?? cross-key; duplicate key under L4 gives an alternative G??/E??; side key under R3 (or R4) for B??/F??.
