Clarinet. Nominal pitch: B♭.

Technical description: Boxwood (perhaps fruitwood) with ivory ferrules and german silver keywork. Five pieces: mouthpiece, barrel, upper section, lower section, bell.Mouthpiece of dark wood, grooved for cord, does not fit on the barrel.Barrel bulbous with two ivory ferrules.Upper section: tone-hole of the speaker on the left side of the instrument, speaker curved; cylindrical short chimney, speaker liner projects almost to the centre of bore. Side trill key for R1 combined co-axial with side key for F₄/C₆. Duplicate cross key for F₄/C₆. Duplicate cross lever for E♭₄/B♭₅ acting on the side key for E♭₄/B♭₅. Spectacles for L2 and L3 to close vent key to correct intonation of E₄/B♮₅ and forked B♭₅.Lower section: L4 keys for E₃/B♮₄ and F♯₃/C♯₅ co-axial. Spectacle for R2 and R3 closing a vent key to improve forked B♭₃/F₅. German silver roller on G♯₃/E♭₅ key to relieve gliding to the hinge key for F₃/C₅. Lugs on right hand rings to F and E♭ keys for high register venting. Rod key mechanism with concentric axles and end pivot R4 C key. Leaf and needle springs. Thumb rest ivory, screwed to body.Bell with ivory rim.Ferrules ivory, half-round on bell and lower section, tapered with rim on barrel. Very delicate and lightly made instrument. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; A♮; A♭. L2: spectacle ring; cross F₄/C₆. L3: spectacle ring; dup cross E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; rod E₃/B♮₄; co-axial rod F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; rod throat B♮; rod F₄/C₆; side E♭₄/B♭₅. R2: spectacle ring. R3: spectacle ring (also closed by G♯₃/E♭₅ touch); cross B♭₃/F♮₅. R4: rod G♯₃/E♭₅; hinged F₃/C♮₅. Keymount type: pillars; two leaf springs, others needle. Keyhead type: modern, but cups shallower than usual, mostly rod and axle pattern.
