Technical description: Soundboard of spruce, bookmatched with fine grain in the centre and wide grain at the edges. Bridge of ebony, 155mm long and 25.5mm wide. Inlaid ivory section on top of bridge through which the bridge pins pass. Bridge pins of ebony with mother-of-pearl eyes. Separate let-in saddle of ivory. Soundhole 85mm diameter, surrounded by a herringbone design separated by thin strips of maple and rosewood, in turn surrounded by engraved abalone, then a half-herringbone strip edged with thin strips of maple and rosewood on either side, and then an eight-pointed design of engraved abalone surrounded by a half-herringbone strip edged with maple and rosewood on either side. The soundboard is edged with a white material, probably whalebone, with a rosewood strip inside, then the half-herringbone design, then a strip of maple, then a geometric pattern of alternating long sections of red and green stained spruce with maple/rosewood/maple strips separating them, and then the mirror pattern of maple strip, half-herringbone design, rosewood strip, and then four strips of rosewood giving the impression of a wider strip. The back and sides are rosewood, separated by the white (whalebone) edging, with a half-herringbone design surrounding it. At the bottom of the sides the design goes either side of a tapered rosewood band into which there is an ebony endpin with an ivory eye. There is a decorative strip in the centre of the back, consisting of the alternate long stained red and green spruce pieces separated by strips of maple/rosewood/maple, with thin strips of maple on either side, then the half-herringbone design, and then thin strips of rosewood. The pieces of rosewood on the back and sides are bookmatched. The heel, neck and head appear to be Honduras Cedar. There is a noticeable Vprofile on the heel and neck. The heel flows smoothly into the neck, and the neck is attached to the head by a smooth flowing Vjoint. There is a rosewood capping on the bottom of the heel with thin strips of maple and rosewood above it. There is an engraved brass machine head plate on the front surface of the head, with all of the tuners on the bass side of the head, having ivory buttons (some now cracked or broken). The head has a hockey stick shape. The nut is ivory. The neck is 313mm long, and measures 47mm wide at the nut and 56.5mm wide at the body join. The fingerboard is ebony. There are 17frets. There are white dot markers, 7.5mm diameter, on the fingerboard at frets 5, 7, 9 and 12.
