Technical description: Bookmatched soundboard of spruce. Bridge of mahogany with a glued-on ebony saddle. Rosehole 80.5mm diameter, with a brass rose featuring a cherub holding a shawm surrounded by a trophy of musical instruments. The rose is surrounded by a narrow pear strip. There are three pairs of inked purfling lines. The is a single pair of inked lines around the edge of the soundboard. There is an ivory soundboard protector at the bottom. The sides are of figured maple, and join at the bottom. There are ten metal pins to anchor the strings, and an ebony endbutton with a mother-of-pearl eye. The back is of burr maple, bookmatched, which is veneered onto a spruce core. There is a single pair of inked purfling lines around the edge of the back. The heel, neck and head are of a single piece of figured maple, and flow smoothly into each other. The head is sickle shaped and ends with a square terminal with a tortoiseshell and mother-of-pearl design. The strings attach to a brass mechanism which requires a watchkey to alter the tension of the strings. The note names are engraved at the upper end. The nut is ebony. The fingerboard is of tortoiseshell with an inlaid mother-of-pearl design either side of fret6 and an ebony design next to the nut. The fingerboard is chamfered over its width. The neck is 185mm long, 46.5mm wide at the nut and 51mm wide at the body join. The fingerboard floats over the soundboard. It is 264mm long at the edges and 239mm long at the centre. There are 15 full width frets and two frets in the treble only. There are holes at the first 5frets for a capotasto. Repair History: The bridge is a replacement.
