Clarinet. Nominal pitch: B♭/A.

Technical description: Rosewood, the barrel and upper body in one piece; plain german silver ferrules; thumb rest slightly shaped. There are ten plungers on the right hand side of the instrument, out of the way of the keys and the fingers (Binda's patent). They are about 14.5mm in diameter and arranged in two groups, four on the lower section controlled by one lever and six on the upper section by another. The lower pistons can be withdrawn by 9.3mm and the upper ones by 6.6mm when their levers are pressed. They remain out until pushed in again by pressure on their rodding. Withdrawing the plungers increases the sounding volume by 6.14 cubic centimetres on the lower section and 6.54 on the upper section. Neglecting the flare of the bell and the narrowing of the mouthpiece the volume of air sounding inB♭ is about 110 cubic cm and inA about 123 cubic cm, an increase of about 11 percent. 12 keys, 2 rings. L0: T; speaker. L1: T; throat A♮. L2: T; throat A♭. L3: T; cross E♭₄/B♭₅. L4: C♯₄/G♯₅; E₃/B♮₄; F♯₃/C♯₅. R1: T; side F₄/C₆; side trill key for throat A-B♮ and B♭-C. R2: T + spectacle.
