'Saltzburg' zither

'Saltzburg'-form zither, the body of pine veneered with rosewood, the top edges decorated with ivory stringing, the sides inlaid with a light wood stringing. Base and bottom lip of ebonised pine. Fingerboard of ebony with 30 metal frets and eight inlaid mother-of-pearl fret markers. Five melody strings on the fingerboard, three steel and two overspun, held by five pegs with ivory heads, and 27 accompanying strings, held by steel wrestpins. Brass plate at top left hand corner, engraved with a swan, scrolling vine leaves and stylised flowerheads. Sound-hole surround inlaid with mother-of-pearl on an ebonised ground, edged with ivory stringing and border. Three turned ivory feet on base.
