'Japanese fiddle'

Belly made from a single piece of pine, with two f-shaped soundholes. Rest of body consists or rectangular cigar box, of 'cigar box cedar', stamped with a trade name (now illegible) on the base, and with "Flor Fina" on the end. Sides of the box decorated with applied motifs of a black synthetic resin, their star-shaped centres filled with some form of plaster. Neck and crudely carved anthropomorphic head of mahogany, with decorative varnished finish and the initials CH applied in metal at each side of the head. Single wire string held by ebony peg at back of neck. Small circular nut of ebony and 22 frets cut into the neck. Made by donor's father. In own home-made canvas case.
