Musical box

Rectangular case, the front, back and sides painted and varnished to resemble kingwood, the lid veneered with rosewood. Top of lid inlaid with three shawms, tambourine and floral sprays in various pale and stained fruitwoods, surrounded by three inlaid lines of stringing in a lighter wood. Two fixed, cast-brass carrying handles attached at either side of case. Interior of case ebonised. Cylinder and comb, with ratcheted lever-winding mechanism on left-hand side and stop/start levers on right. Geneva stopwork mechanism on barrel. Speed governed by worm-driven fly on right. Nine engraved bells, struck by plain metal hammers. Serial number 12210 stamped on brass bed plate. Glass cover. Plays 10 tunes. Tune-sheet now missing. Case raised on four ebonised corner feet.
