Technical description: Wooden body bound with fabric and painted black; the body in three sections (straight, bow, straight) each made in two halves and joined. Copper bell attached to body 183mm from bell end (below lowest tone-hole) by 11 rivets, the bell with a small gusset, with French rim. Looped copper and brass crook with tuning-slide. Brass crook receiver sheath, bow guard, support pillar, strap ring and keywork. Straight pillar to support instrument on left hand but no pillar for right hand; ring for neck strap on plate screwed to body.
