Side drum

Inscription commemorates the capture of the drum by Cpl John Larking, 88th Regiment of Foot (or the Connaught Rangers), Battle of the Alma, Crimean War (1854-1856). Brass, front decorated in repoussé with oval cartouche with twin headed spread eagle, to the left is an engraved commemoration inscription. Twisted flesh hoops; drum heads whole; nine rope holes; white blancoed cord with buff slides, all replacements; white blancoed, half plated drag rope; three ball legs on upper hoop, painted with black and white dog tooth pattern outside and white inside, with wire pick up.
