Side drum

Captured by Drum-Major Robert Beck, of the 88th Regiment of Foot (Connaught Rangers) at the Battle of Inkerman on 5 Nov 1854, Crimean War (1854-1856). Brass, front decorated in repoussé with oval cartouche with twin headed spread eagle, and engraved with commemoration inscription. Twisted flesh hoops; drum heads whole; nine rope holes; white blancoed cord with buff slides; white blancoed, half plated drag rope; three ball legs on upper hoop, painted with black and white dog tooth pattern on outside and white inside.
