Sudanese kettle drum, copper, 1898 (c); taken from the Dervishes at the Battle of Omdurman, 2nd Sudan War; four pairs of brass suspension rings around rim, one pair missing; below rim are 47 copper pegs to secure head; tanned, shaved leather head with traces of hair.
