Indian flute
Indian flute, 1799 (c); polished wood; one piece, cylindrical stem with three incised rings at mouthpiece end, mouthpiece possibly missing; seven holes bored along top and one on bottom at base; flared bell, slightly convex; remains of a paper label are attached to the bell, inscribed in ink manuscript, ‘From/ Tippoo Sultan’s/ Tent/ Seringapatam/ India 1799’. Associated with Tipu Sultan, 4th Mysore War (1799).
