Boatswain's call
Die-cast, chromed whistle with external, swan-neck-shaped tubular mouthpipe/duct ("gun"), supported on a strip of metal ("keel"), leading to a spherical-shaped sound chamber ("buoy") with a single circular hole. Shackle is present on the keel and attached to a cord lanyard, along with a general service whistle. The boatswain call, also known as bosun's whistle, was mainly used as a nautical signaling instrument. This particular example, was owned and used by Miss Lilla Smith of Little Garth, Blaisdon, who was county dairy instructor for Gloucestershire.
