Kundi

This instrument was collected in the field by Percy Horace Gordon and Hannah Powell-Cotton. It is an arched harp made with a waisted wooden resonator entirely covered with shaved animal skin, stitched on the bottom. The soundtable has two small soundholes. The wooden neck curves upwards and it fits into a hole on the top of the resonator, being tightly bound by the same animal skin. It has five wooden tuning pegs and strings made of vegetable fibers. The strings pierce the soundtable and are attached to a strip of wood (stringholder) that passes along the length of the resonator.
