Martinstrompete

Bass Martinstrompete, four note mouth-blown beating reed instrument. The flattened blowpipe leads directly into a conical section housing two piston valves. Four reeds labelled: d, c, H (b natural) and G are positioned on a circular reed plate immediately below the two valves. Water keys are positioned on the outsides of the second bend of the four tubes. The pipes are attached to conical bell branches, which terminate in four bells positioned in a square formation. Tabbed seams are visible down the side of each bell. The over all shape resembles a helicon format, and a stay of brass tubing connects the 'H' bell to the front of the instrument to form a shoulder support. A socket for a music card is holder attached to the ‘d’ tube. A finger ring with a knurled outer surface is attached the ‘G’ tube. The maker's mark is stamped in an oval cartouche on the 'c' bell: 'MARTIN/SIGNAL'.
