Machete
Machete. The instrument is shaped like a miniature four-stringed guitar. The back and ribs are of reddish-brown wood. The table is of light brown wood with dark brown ornamentation at the base and around the sound hole. The four strings are attached to a pin bridge. The ends of the bridge are carved into scrolled oak twigs with acorns. There are four rear-entrant pegs in the head. Seventeen metal frets are set into the fingerboard. Labelled inside the back: 'Octavianno João Nunes / Artista de Violas Francezas, Guitarras / Rabecas, Rabecões e Machetes - Rua de São Paulo - No38A / Madeira'.
