Side-blown horn

Side-blown horn carved from and elephant tusk. A triangular mouth hole is carved on the outer side of the curve of the instrument approximately 150mm from the bell. The bell has a raised band of geometrical patterns carved in relief. One of a pair with 8.3.66/2. The pair were donated to the Horniman by Mrs. M.A.C. Allen, whose grandfather was given them by Glele, King of Dahomey, around the 1870s.
