Side-blown horn
Side-blown horn. Carved from the tusk of an elephant. A triangular mouth hole is carved on the outer side of the curve of the instrument approximately 150mm from the bell. The bell has a raised band of carved relief with geometrical patterns. One of a pair with 8.3.66/1. The pair were donated to the Horniman by Mrs. M.A.C. Allen, whose grandfather was given them by Glele, King of Dahomey, around the 1870s.
