Santur
Santur, dulcimer. The body is of trapezoid form. The soundboard is pierced by two matching sound holes, each a compass-drawn six-lobed rosette. The sides at the front and the back are painted with a frieze of dancers and instrumentalists. Eighteen quadruple courses of strings are tuned from lance-shaped wrest-pins set into the right-hand side. Each course has a separate 'chessman' bridge surmounted by a comb of metal. These are set alternately on the right and left of the soundboard. With wooden case (M29a-1995) depicting an entertainment at the court of Nasser ad-Din Shah Qajar.
