Frame drum
Single membrane drum. The shallow frame is made from a single piece of wood with tapered ends that overlap and are nailed together. The skin covers the external surface of the frame and is nailed to the lower rim. On the underside, six sections of the the skin are stretched from the lower rim to near the centre, where they are tied together with narrow lengths of twisted sinew, forming a central handle. A stitched repair to the membrane is visible from the inside.
