Yueyang Feijiahe Nao (Bronze nao with animal-mask motif)

Preserved in good condition. One end of the yong is slightly broken. The whole body of the instrument is covered in green patina. The colour of the nao is brown mixed with some blue. The body of the bell is shaped like a combined pair of tiles. The underside (wu) is flat and the two xian points are straight. The body of the instrument is flat and wide with the distance between the two xian points being longer than the length of the xian. A tubular rod named yong (handle) on the base, which is thick and short, hollow in the middle and is connected to the inside of the body. The yong bears a raised collar called xuan. The mouth (yu) is curved. The surface of the body is decorated with animal-mask motif made up of thick lines. Cloud patterns decorate the surrounding areas, the yong and the wu. This is the same as the nao with animal-mask motif excavated from Ningxiang County, which means that they come from the same ethnicity and the same period.
