Zhong with Stylised Animal-mask Motif (Attachment 3) (Bronze bell with studs)
Well preserved. Made of bronze, with brown colour on the surface. The body of the bell is shaped like a combined pair of tiles. The mouth (yu) is curved. The two xian points are pointing inwards. Thick lines in low relief are used as frames to define the central panel (zheng), the areas (zhuan) between the studs, the gu and studs. The upper surface (wu) is flat and has a rectangular loop (niu). This loop is too big to match the body of the bell. There are 36 very small studs on the body of the bell. The loop is decorated with cord patterns and S-shaped cloud patterns. The areas between the studs are decorated with S-shaped cloud patterns. There is a stylised animal-mask design formed by cloud patterns in the middle of the gu.
