Qing dynasty Qin (Seven-stringed zither)
The top and bottom surfaces of the qin are both made of platane wood. The cap corner (guanjue), bridge (yueshan) and dew-receptor (chenglu) are all made of redwood, and are not painted. There are no tuning pegs on the instrument. The qin has bull-horn goose feet and gold inlays (hui). There are no cracks (duanwen) on the surfaces of the qin, which are painted with huitai [a grey coating that turns black when dried]. The raised sound retainers are rectangular with rounded corners.
