Flute

This boxwood flute consists in five joints (including a telescoping tuning slide) connected with ivory rings and six silver round keys. It is marked G. Astor & Co. 79 Cornhill, London. The six finger holes are placed on the two centre joints. There is a long cut on the foot joint. This example was used in the Metropolitan Police band and it is thought to have been made around 1860.
