Pochette
Pochette with boat-shaped body. Pegbox, neck and back probably of one-piece construction, but imitating five-stave construction; covered in decorative veneers of bone, ebony and another dark wood. Front of cypress with slight depression; C-shaped soundholes, between them an inlay of simple floral form in dark wood and mother-of-pearl; inlay of skull and bones surmounted by a cross at end of fingerboard. A moulding defines junction of neck and body; the five ‘staves’ of the back veneered in chequered chevrons laid herringbone fashion; the neck similarly veneered in smaller pieces. Fingerboard, front and tailpiece edge banded with alternating ebony and mother-of-pearl; an inlay of an archer on lower end of fingerboard.
