Saung-gauk

The arched harp is one of the most ancient of instruments, appearing in Sumerian and Egyptian sources c.3000 BC. In the Burmese survival, 13 spun silk strings tuned pentatonically run from the skin belly to adjustable ties on the neck. This late example, decorated with mica, has tuning pegs and gut strings. Presented by Edward VII, 1909.
