Upright pianoforte

This late 19th-century upright piano has a case veneered in rosewood, with decorative fluted columns and mouldings. The front board is embellished with a central marquetry floral motif, with a moulded panel at either end. It has unichord stringing from A2 to F#1, bichord stringing from G1 to B flat, and trichord stringing from B to c5. The overwound strings run from from A2 to Bb. According to the Pierce Piano Atlas, the Steinway serial numbers for 1896 begin at 85000 and for 1898 at 90000. Consequently, this instrument, which has a serial number of 89723 may be assigned a date of c1897.
