whistle

Double-chambered whistling bottle with straight spout and narrow-profiled bridge; flat base. One chamber is surmounted by a bird's head; both chambers split into four sections by raised vertical bands; outer face of each features vertical bands of pendant triangles; inner faces are stippled. Vertical mould seams run down centre of faces - so single two-part mould used; then bird head added to incorporate modelled whistling mechanism; bridge also added but spout incorporated in mould. Smooth areas well-burnished but worn in places. Black, but much worn off.
