back: 1 piece of maple, with straight slanting figure upwards lh to rh; moderately arched, recovered, ridged at edge; purfling narrow set well in from edge; shoulders, waist broad, in French manner; corners long, square, with pronounced curve; small button; varnish: clear golden brown spirit. Belly: 1 piece pine, less arched than the back, recovered at edge; purfling similar to back; f-holes (42mm) very rounded and wide, set upright; varnish redder than on back. Ribs: similar wood to back; endpin, nut, tailpiece in ebony; tailpiece tied the modern way. Fingerboard: same thickness all along, rather thin. Neck: finely figured slab-cut sycamore, 1 piece with head, very slender; a mark on the neck above button may indicate a hidden screw securing it to the block, Pegbox: wide all along, with square edges. Pegs: 4 in ebony, pearl spots in ends. Scroll: well marked wood, carefully carved, slightly better on lh than on rh; bosses and bevelled edges rounded off.
