Flute. Nominal pitch: C.
Technical description: Black wood; 3 sections (lower body and foot in one piece); silver keys; 7 silver ferrules; ivory-bushed embouchure-hole; tuning-slide, but no separate tuning-slide section; upper body socket metal-lined; graduated screw-stopper; large finger-holes, especially R2; oval embouchure-hole; cork set into wood beneath keytouches, to minimise key-noise. The word "patent" in the inscription refers to the pads mounted on central screws and the metal tuning-slide received by another metal tube, of Monzani's 1807 patent. This instrument also features the lower body and foot in one piece and the metal-lined upper body socket to be patented by the maker in 1812 (G.B.
